LEED-Certified Project Review: Spotlight on Architectural Signage Solutions for LEED Projects
Everyone knows by know that April is the Green month and most folks might know that the last Fridaywas Earth Day as well as Good Friday. In the spirit of the green movement, we thought it would be nice to share a few nice LEED® certified projects we were involved with and highlight the interior, exterior and digital signage solutions as well as some environmental graphics for these projects. Click on the title to read more about each project.
Ithaca College
As part of the College’s LEED® platinum initiative, the facility management team at Ithaca College needed a durable interior signage solution that would complement the interior design of the new buildings, promote the College’s brand identity, and follow the eco-friendly material and fabrication techniques.
Bud Werner Memorial Library
The Bud Werner Memorial Library, located in Steamboat Springs, CO, is the first public library in Colorado to achieve a Silver LEED certification. ASI worked directly with the library management to create a flexible and functional interior and exterior signage system that beautifully complements the architectural design.
Dell Children’s Medical Center
Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, a member of the Seton Family of Hospitals, is the first LEED® Platinum hospital in the world. The hospital is the only dedicated, freestanding children’s hospital in the Central Texas region and offers a wide range of pediatric services.
Deerfield Academy
The David H. Koch Center, the new science center at Deerfield Academy, is a LEED Gold rated, 80,000 square-foot facility for the study of science, mathematics, and technology. Deerfield Academy wanted a unique, modern signage solution for the new David H. Koch Center for Science, Math & Technology that would complement the state-of-the-art facility. Because it was seeking LEED certification, the center wanted to work with a company that shared its green ideals.
BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York
Before employees could move in to the new headquarters, a complete interior and exterior signage solution, including signage design and wayfinding, had to be created. Because BlueCross BlueShield wanted the new facility to achieve a LEED® Silver Certification, the solution had to have a modular functionality to make information and message updates easy without sacrificing aesthetic integration with the architectural environment.
Harborside Office Center
Port Huron is one of Michigan’s oldest settlements, dating back to 1686, and home to the Blue Water International Bridge that links the U.S. and Canada. In 2003, Port Huron initiated a $65 million revitalization effort to reclaim and revitalize the waterfront and redefine the downtown area for mixed-use development. The Harborside Office Building at Desmond Landing is helping to revitalize the community and it has achieved LEED® Silver certification from USGBC.
Mark Twain House
The Mark Twain House & Museum resides at the former home of the acclaimed writer and his family. Built as a new wing to the Mark Twain House, the museum was the first museum in the nation to attain LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The museum needed signs to provide clear wayfinding for visitors. Because the museum was seeking LEED® certification through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), they wanted a signage system to complement the initiative.
