In the November issue of Sign Builder Illustrated, Jeff Wooten with Sign Builder Illustrated wrote about sign maker Gary Johnson, founder of The Great American Sign Company about how he recently designed and built the 3D signage for the Tipsy Moose Tavern.  Bravo to Mr. Johnson for creating such a unique and memorable signage solution for his client. According to Mr. Wooten, Mr. Johnson’s award-winning designs can be found in train stations, the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, offices of Senators and Congressmen, and the halls of many universities. It reminded us of the work done by Bill Kist with ASI, Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens.

“When the Cincinnati Zoo was preparing for the opening of the Kamodo Dragon exhibit they contacted ASI to talk about the option of a 3D signage solution,” Kist said.  “We had previously talked to the Zoo about the option of digitizing an image into a 3D file and then carving it out of HDU (High Density Urethane foam).  When they presented us the marketing piece for the exhibit it was a no-brainer that this was going to work perfectly and the signage and marketing piece would match.  The zoo entrusted us to produce the 3D signage with the agreement that it needed to match the marketing piece already developed and distributed.  The zoo was extremely happy with the results and he have done several full and partial 3D carves since.”

In addition to the 3D signage for the “Dragons!” entrance to the komodo dragon enclosure, ASI also produced 3D signage for several other exhibits inside the zoo, including the entrance to the “Jungle Trails” exhibit.
