Protecting the Environment
It is a goal in today’s time to use materials and processes that are less harmful to our environment.

signage that utilizes eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes.
ASI’s green signage philosophy is rooted in implementing sustainable solutions. Our core belief is “the longer time in the life-cycle, the less time in the waste-cycle.”
In addition to our eco-friendly modular and extrusion systems, ASI offers three green architectural signage solutions that are ideal for facilities and brands that are committed to using eco-friendly solutions.
Green Signage Strategies
As the demand for green building practices increase, the need for proven green products and services will grow dramatically. As companies continue to reach new goals, implement better practices and learn from historical data, we will all benefit through access to more eco-friendly materials, practices and overall reduced costs to implement greener solutions.
Here are a few questions we commonly hear from the marketplace:
There are several considerations when evaluating architectural signage solutions to assist in making an impact. We have outlined the high level points that should guide the overall signage design and program implementation.

Contact ASI to discuss these topics in more detail to assist in the implementation of a green signage solution. We can discuss options and strategies in more detail – such as the benefits of solar for exterior applications, use of LEDs, modular strategies for interior signage and share our knowledge on these strategies as it relates to a specific segment such as healthcare signage.
This is a question that many in the industry debate and a variety of answers circulate. In many cases, signage is a small portion of the overall construction budget so it may have a limited ability to actually contribute to LEED® points through product application. Signage however should be evaluated on a case by case basis to determine its ability to contribute to LEED® points.
Signage can contribute to a LEED® point related to green education. Contact ASI for more information on this credit.
Green Education for Architectural Signage Industry
Helping Educate the Industry About Green
Because education is essential to any sustainable initiative, ASI continuously trains our organization on the various aspects of green signage, green buildings, and green building trends – from a basic introduction to green materials and practices to the more complex understanding of LEED® certification.
ASI together with SEGD (Society for Experiential Graphic Designers), developed the SEGD Green Paper 2007, the first document that outlines and defines green standards for signage.
Green Education
ASI developed the course Green: Strategies for Signage and Green: Introduction to Solar Signage for external audiences. This is the first course that explains the sustainable aspects of signage and the role signage plays in green building certification. Participants receive 1 AIA credit in Health, Safety & Welfare and the class applies toward their sustainable design learning requirements.
